Measuring for the Corvette Suspension Swap

I’m starting to get into the next stage of the 1971 C10 build by measuring everything out so I can begin fabricating the brackets needed to fit the 1996 Corvette suspension under the truck.

Before I start building the brackets, I want to make sure everything is measured correctly and lined up where it needs to be. This part of the project is going to take a lot of planning because the suspension was never made to fit a C10, so there will be plenty of custom fabrication involved.

One of the biggest things I’ve been working on before getting too far into it is my welding. I used to weld more often, but after taking a few years off, getting back into it has been harder than I expected. I’ve been practicing again, trying to get comfortable with the welder and improve my consistency before I start making important suspension brackets.

It can be frustrating when something you used to be comfortable doing doesn’t come back right away, but I know it’s just going to take practice. I’d rather spend the extra time getting my welding right now than rush into fabrication and have problems later.

The next steps are to keep measuring, keep practicing, and start turning those measurements into brackets. There’s still a long way to go, but this is where the Corvette suspension swap really starts becoming a custom C10 build.
